Meaning of the Africa Methodist Council Logo

The Triangles
Our logo is represented by two isosceles triangles facing opposite directions. The triangles are divided by the organization's name written in French. In addition, the triangles are circled, with the English version of the organisation on top and the Portuguese version at the bottom, to reflect the Council's three main languages. The two triangles facing opposite directions also emphasise our mission grounded in the Doctrine of the Trinity, which is represented by the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The triangles also remind us of the historical, theological, and teachings of John Wesley, of preaching scriptural holiness and the growth of Methodism in Africa through the power of the Triune God.
The Map of Africa
The map of Africa shows how the continent has become the fertile ground for Methodism, with the movement operating in 34 of Africa's 54 countries in Central, East, West, and Southern Africa.
The Cross
The cross at the centre of the map of Africa emphasises the mission of bringing Christ to every land and showing Africa under the influence of Christ through the Africa Methodist Council.
Colours
The logo has four distinct colours that form the Council's brand.
Depicts the fertility of the land in Africa.
Represents the people of Africa, the majority of whom are of black origin.
Represents purity, holiness, and our striving for righteousness in an unjust continent.
Draws its meaning from (Ezekiel 1:4), representing the image of fire. Fire symbolises the divine presence of God in the Movement.
Our Journey
From vision to reality - The story of the Africa Methodist Council
The Beginning
The idea of having the Africa Methodist Council dates back to 1986, when the African Methodist Church hosted the World Methodist Conference in Nairobi, Kenya. The Nairobi Conference appointed the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church in Kenya, Rev Lawi Imathiu, as the first African to serve as President of the World Methodist Council. After the Conference, African Methodist leaders discussed strategies to bring together the various strands of Methodist families across Africa to encourage fellowship, support one another in mission, and strengthen one another.
First Formal Meeting
The first formal meeting was held in March 1998 at Northfield Methodist Church, Benoni, South Africa, on the theme "Africa our Parish". Delegates from 13 African countries attended. The meeting agreed to name the organisation All-Africa Methodist Leaders Conference (AAMLC), with His Eminence Dr Sunday Mbang appointed as coordinator.
Revival & Restructuring
After a period of postponements, the British Methodist Church invited an All-Partners Consultation in London in June 2010. This provided a fresh opportunity to revisit the need for a platform for Methodist families across the continent. The AAMLC met in Durban in November-December 2010 and changed the organisation's name to Pan Africa Methodist Consultation Network (PAMCN).
Birth of AMC
The PAMCN met in Nairobi, Kenya, from 22-24 March 2011 with 21 participants. This historic meeting made several resolutions that bind the Council today, including renaming PAMCN to the Africa Methodist Council.
Constitutional Framework
The Africa Methodist Council Heads of Churches Summit met from October 15-18, 2015, at the Freeman Methodist Centre, Kumasi, Ghana. The Summit adopted the Draft Constitution and established a temporary Secretariat in Ibadan, Nigeria, with Very Revd Opeyemi Awe as Interim General Secretary.
Inaugural Conference
The first General Conference was held in Kenya from 13-18 March 2019. The Conference designated Ghana as the Council's headquarters and appointed Very Revd Opeyemi Awe as the first substantive General Secretary and Revd Joseph Ntombura as President. Four Vice Presidents representing different regions were also appointed.
Quadrennial Conference
The 2nd/1st Quadrennial Conference was held from 7-12 March 2023, attended by delegates from most African Conferences and international partners. Revd. Dr Martin Mujinga was appointed as Second General Secretary, and Most Revd Dr. Paul K. Boafo was elected as President.
Continued Growth
In May 2024, Bishop Isaiah Deye was appointed Vice President of East Africa. In September 2025, the Central Africa region was founded with Bishop Daniel Lunge appointed as regional Chairperson, marking continued expansion across the continent.
